Deep Roots and a Growing Business
While Morning Star Outfitters opened its doors in Truth or Consequences in 2019, its roots go much deeper. Back in 1992, Jasper Mondello’s parents opened a screen-printing shop in Silver City, New Mexico, a business that grew rapidly and eventually evolved into a thriving retail operation in tandem with the screen-printing operation. While working with his parents, Jasper frequently made trips to Truth or Consequences. When a location he’d had his eye on became available, Jasper jumped at the chance to purchase it – a 6,000 sq. ft. building with off-street parking and a great location, on the corner of North Broadway and Daniels Street in Truth or Consequences’ shopping district.

At one point in the history of the building Morning Star Outfitters now occupies, a supermarket occupied the space. And since many customers commented on where the ice cream had been located in the store, Jasper felt it only fitting that ice cream should return to its old home.
That’s why, today, you can make a chilling discovery at Morning Star – a freezer filled with pints and half pints of homemade ice cream made by Koinonia, located in the tiny, remote town of San Lorenzo, which is nestled in the foothills of the Gila National Forest. You’ll be surprised at the depth of your refreshingly yummy choices, which include Peach Pizzazz, Rah Rah Raspberry, Cheerful Cherry, and Royal Root Beer, just to name a few.
Scrubs, of Course!
One of the other Morning Star Outfitters surprises is an extensive line of scrubs. So why on earth would an outfitter carry scrubs? According to Jasper, the answer is simple. With a large hospital in town and several clinics, the community needs a resource for medical wear, and who better to fill that need than Morning Star Outfitters! They even hold a huge “scrub sale” twice a year at the hospital. It’s just one of the many ways Morning Star seeks to serve the needs of their community.
